As the summer season dwindles, a magical transformation is taking place in households across the country. Four out of five parents are working tirelessly to transform the back-to-school season into a spellbinding experience for their little scholars, according to a recent poll.
This enchanting survey conducted by Talker Research on behalf of Keebler Snacks, involved 2,000 parents with children aged 12 and under. A staggering 86% are weaving their magic to make school return an exciting event. Their ultimate aim? To ignite a spark of enthusiasm in their child about returning to the classroom.
Parents are casting their charms in various ways. From allowing their child to pick out their school outfits (62%), and choosing their favorite school supplies (62%), to supporting their passions and interests (56%).
Interestingly, 19% of parents confessed they didn’t enjoy school when they were their child’s age. However, a whopping 96% are determined to rewrite history and create more positive memories for their children.
The survey revealed that typically 40% of kids are “very excited” to return to school after summer break. This means parents are pulling out all the stops to meet these high expectations. So, how do they conjure up this excitement? A delightful 63% use hands-on learning activities like baking a cake to teach fractions, 43% incorporate food or snack activities, and 25% stimulate their imagination and learning through experiences such as fantasy costume play.
The magic doesn’t stop there. Over four in ten parents like to surprise their kids with their favorite snacks, three in ten slip encouraging notes into their lunchbox, and 19% have given their child a “lucky charm” for good luck at school. Moreover, 70% of parents believe an after-school snack works like a magic potion when their child has had a tough day.
Parents generally keep the magic alive by encouraging their children to use their imagination (70%), instilling beliefs in magical beings like the Easter Bunny, Tooth Fairy, or Santa Claus (53%), teaching them to see the best in people and experiences (50%), and encouraging them to look for the unexpected (46%).
“There’s a myriad of small ways to make a new routine ‘magical’ and help instill that love of learning and school in your child,” said Alicia Mosley, Vice President of Marketing for the Keebler Brand. “Whether you’re slipping notes into your child’s lunch box or surprising them with their favorite snack.”
“It’s heartwarming to see parents working so diligently to keep magic alive for their children. It’s these little moments of magic that will be etched in their children’s memory and cherished for the rest of their lives.”
