South Carolina twin brothers, Davon and Tavon Woods, are making strides in raising awareness for youth in foster care through their organization, Foster Kids Matter. The pair have embarked on a journey to walk 20 miles in each of the country’s 50 states, using their own experiences in foster care to inspire hope, courage, and resilience.
The unique initiative by the twins was inspired by their personal journey in the foster care system. Their experiences were filled with pain, anger, and hurt – emotions they’ve transformed into a driving force to create a brighter future for other foster children.
“They’re so resilient. Look at what they’ve taken with their pain…I just feel grateful for them, grateful that they have the opportunity to share their voice and story”, says Colleen Kelly, a former teacher of the brothers. She expresses admiration for their determination and resilience in their mission.
Apart from spreading awareness, Davon and Tavon also aim to establish quality foster care facilities throughout all fifty states. They provide housing solutions for those aging out of foster care systems. Despite limited resources, they have managed to help seven or eight such children find shelter during difficult times, showing them love and support.
The brothers’ efforts do not stop there. They run a program called ‘Keeping It Fresh’ which collaborates with organizations to donate new shoes to children in need. This initiative boosts confidence one step at a time! A generous $10k donation from Designer Brands will enable them to reach even more children across the country!
Their inspiring journey has caught national attention after being featured on Robin Roberts’ Good Morning America segment. The spotlight on Davon and Tavon underscores how far they have come since leaving foster care. The twins continue to work tirelessly towards a goal that’s bigger than themselves.
