Former sorority sisters, Jess Hause and Megan Schultz, experienced an incredibly emotional reunion when they met in their late 30s at Megan’s house. The reason for their reunion was beyond special – Megan had agreed to donate a kidney to Jess, whom she hadn’t seen for over a decade.

Jess was diagnosed with chronic kidney failure in September 2023. The diagnosis led to an overwhelming response from people offering to get tested for a potential donation. Among those who stepped forward was her old sorority sister, Megan Schultz. A few weeks later, Megan made a FaceTime call to Jess to inform her that she was a match.

Jess had initially expected Megan’s call to bring disappointing news of not being a match. So, the revelation left her stunned and speechless. She described the gesture as “super special.”

Jess’s kidney issues were first identified while she was undergoing treatment for shingles at a hospital. But after losing her job and medical insurance in April 2023, she had stopped seeing the doctor regularly. However, when she began experiencing numbness and tingling from her knees down, she decided to visit the emergency room. After conducting tests, the doctors diagnosed her with total kidney failure.

She started dialysis last year, which she undergoes three days a week for three-and-a-half hours each session. Jess shared her day-to-day life on Instagram, which is how Megan learned about her situation.

Upon receiving confirmation from the hospital that she was a match for Jess, Megan was moved to tears. She called Jess on June 13th, 2024, to share the news. The pair managed to reunite over the weekend.

The reunion was heartwarming and despite the time apart, their friendship felt as strong as ever. The surgery is scheduled for November 12th, 2024. It’s worth noting that even with one kidney, humans can lead long, healthy lives with minor adjustments.
