The Southport mosque was burned down last Tuesday following the stabbing of three young women. Misinformation on social media falsely claiming that the perpetrator was a migrant from a majority Muslim country on the MI6 watchlist triggered violent reactions. However, local Bricklayer Tony Hill has been hailed as a “legend” for his efforts to help rebuild the mosque. In scorching heat, Hill worked with remarkable speed and efficiency to lay bricks and restore the building. A video clip that went viral on X shows Hill working tirelessly, explaining his motives amidst the physical exertion. He said, “We spoke to the company we work for, and the [other building crews] were coming down, so we just joined them. And yeah, just try and get it done before someone comes back.” His primary concern was ensuring the safety of the community. “We just really want to get this up so that the community is safe,” he told an interviewer at the scene. “It’s just a community, isn’t it? You can tell by… just looking at everyone here, it’s quite diverse.” When asked if he had a message for those who tore down the wall, Hill responded with understanding, saying, “Get your facts straight before you start doing stuff. Facebook’s a dangerous thing.” Hill was determined to finish the wall in the next few hours and declared that he would not hesitate to rebuild it again if needed. The video has been viewed 5.4 million times on X, with commenters praising Hill for embodying what “being British is all about.” Notable figures such as Conservative MP Saqib Bhatti and the director of Islamic Relief UK, Tufail Hussain, have also commended Hill’s actions. One X user commented that “we should all be a bit more Tony Hill.” https://twitter.com/BarneyDavisIND/status/1818689294812188789?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw SHARE This Inspiring Community Response To Tragedy And Brighten Up Social Media… Source: Good News Network
