A heartwarming story unfolded in rural Nova Scotia when a Canada Post worker went above and beyond her duty to ensure a granddaughter’s letter reached her grandparents. The 12-year-old girl, Daya Modayur, was attending a summer camp at the MacPhee Centre for Creative Learning in Dartmouth when she decided to reply to letters she had received from her grandparents during their road trip.

Unfortunately, due to the complexity of the rural address, Modayur forgot to attach the essential postage stamp to the letter. Upon realizing her mistake, she sought advice from her camp counselor who suggested writing a note to the postal worker and attaching it to the mailbin. The note read: “Dear postal worker, at our summer camp we made postcards and one person sent one to their grandma without a stamp. If you find it, can you please return it to the MacPhee Centre or use the stamp on the back of this page? We would really appreciate it.”

By the next day, a response had appeared at the bottom of the note: “Found it and stamped it! Have a great day.” The kind-hearted mail carrier who found and stamped the letter was Christine Fong. In an interview with Global News, Fong explained that her act was simply an example of “human decency,” stating: “When I read that a child had sent a postcard from a day camp to their grandmother with no postage, obviously, the first thing I thought when I opened it was to find this missing piece of letter mail. Just to see that there was a simple request, it’s human decency just to follow through and do what you got to do.”

This uplifting story showcases how small acts of kindness can make a significant difference in people’s lives. Modayur’s grandparents were eagerly waiting for her handwritten letter which held sentimental value for them. Thanks to Fong’s extraordinary effort, they were able to receive the special delivery.
