The Franklin County Sheriff’s Office – Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force
An Ecuadorian doctor who produced explicit content involving minors faces a 30-year prison sentence, thanks to Rosco, an electronic sniffer dog. Trained to detect chemicals on data storage devices, Rosco was instrumental in this successful prosecution.

Rosco is a member of the Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force in Rogers County, Oklahoma. He works with his partner, Lieutenant John Haning. Another task force member, Ruger the black Labrador, once discovered a laptop full of incriminating evidence hidden under a sofa cushion.

Lieutenant Haning emphasizes the importance of uncovering every piece of evidence to prevent further victims and ensure justice. Missing even a single device could lead to another victim or allow the offender to evade justice.

Their exceptional work has resulted in international requests for assistance. In the Ecuador case, they were invited to join a significant police raid. Officer Haning stated that they never decline a call for help.

After the police entered the premises, Rosco and Haning searched for hidden storage devices. But Rosco’s skills extend beyond sniffing out electronics; he is also trained as a support dog. When a distressed 15-year-old girl with special needs was present during the raid, Rosco calmed her down.

Rosco’s comforting presence also benefits Haning and his fellow officers who often deal with emotionally challenging cases. The 80-pound dog’s affectionate nature helps lighten their burdens.

This story underscores that heroes come in various forms. Some, like Rosco, don’t need to apprehend criminals; they just need to sniff out a motherboard.
