Two long-lost friends, Danny Blanton and John Johnson, unexpectedly reunited during an Uber ride. The video of their chance encounter has since gone viral with over 10 million views, illustrating the online appreciation for genuine moments.

In January, Danny Blanton, a 51-year-old Uber driver, unknowingly picked up his old friend, 60-year-old John Johnson, for a drive to Dallas’ UT Southwestern Medical Center. Despite not recognizing Johnson from his profile picture, Blanton felt a sense of familiarity once the trip began. “Do I know this guy?” he wondered, as reported by People Magazine.

The mystery was solved when Johnson asked Blanton if they had met before. This prompted a joyful realization from Blanton as he recognized his old colleague. Back in the ’90s, the two had worked together at the popular Dallas nightclub Phenomenon – Blanton as a bartender and Johnson as head of security. They enjoyed a great camaraderie at work but lost contact after their respective jobs ended.

By the end of the journey, they exchanged contact information and promised to maintain communication. Overjoyed by this unexpected reunion, Blanton shared the dashcam footage on Facebook for his family to see. He later posted it on his TikTok account for those who no longer use Facebook.

The video quickly gained popularity online, amassing over 4.1 million views. Blanton’s son informed him about their viral fame. Both Blanton and Johnson were delighted by the positive response they received. “We’re both elated by it and to see all the positive comments that it got,” Blanton told People Magazine.

Many viewers could relate to the unique sensation of recognizing someone from their past. Comments such as “I wanted to live that moment with y’all,” and “that sensation is priceless” were echoed among the over 7,000 comments on the video.

Despite their newfound fame, Blanton remains grounded. “[We’re] just two little old guys from Mesquite and Dallas that went viral on the internet,” he said. “That’s it.”
